Seasoned writer and editor Mutuma Mathiu has been appointed as the new group editor at Nation Media Group, East Africa’s largest media house. This comes months after the firm announced the retirement of Tom Mshindi as its editor-in-chief.
Mr Mathiu joined the Nation Media Group in 1997 as a writer and a sub-editor. He rose through the ranks and before his recent appointment, he was the executive editor in charge of the Daily Nation. Mr Mathiu will now be in charge of content in all Nation Media Group platforms — print and broadcast.
NMG chief executive Stephen Gitagama, in a press statement that announced the appointment, highlighted Mr Mathiu’s vast experience in the media industry.
Mr Mathiu has a daunting task ahead after a number of Nation Media Group’s top talent left to either join other media houses or work with the government.
